HI enlightened hairdresser and enlightened hairdresser!

I'm Elena Pozzan, founder and teacher of the Academy of Trichology.

Today we delve into a "hot" topic, a topic that we often neglect but which has a huge impact on our heads: stress and its effects on our hair.

This video has an introductory nature. So don't worry, because it won't be the last!

In the meantime, let's call him “hair stress”, because yes, our hair can feel the weight of what we go through in our daily lives. And you, are you ready to find out more about this topic and learn how to give valuable advice to people who enter the salon?

First of all, did you know that there is good stress and bad stress?

There is a lot of talk about it, often inappropriately. “Eh, my husband/daughter/boyfriend told me I'm stressed,” is a common phrase.

But do you really know what it means to live in a stressful condition?

Let's see it together.

Not all stress is the same! We have two main types, and I assure you that they are useful to know.

On the one hand, we have theeustress (the “good” stress so to speak, what makes us move when a condition or event out of the ordinary arises): it's like that little bell that rings when the car tank is almost empty and you still have 100 km to go.

You stop at the gas station, fill up, and that's it! Stress solved.

On the other hand, there is The distress, that type of stress that creeps into your existence and never seems to want to go away.

From work, to the costs of living, to the news that only has very bad news, to pollution, to nutrition, The distress it builds up and can become really overwhelming.

What needs to be understood is that we are so immersed in a state of distress we don't even notice it, we're used to it.

However, the one who doesn't get used to it is our organism which for a while “holds a punch” then he rebels and manifests his profound disappointment and imbalance through his body.

3 Main stress-related disorders that affect hair

Stress is not just a matter of mental tension, but can also manifest itself physically, directly affecting the health of our hair.

One of the most common problems is hair loss, which may occur more noticeably during periods of intense stress.

When we are stressed, our body releases a cascade of hormones, including the cortisol, which can damage hair follicles and lead to hair loss.

This doesn't mean losing entire strands overnight, but it certainly means noticing more hair in your brush or sink.

Other stress-related disorders include slow hair growth And the early onset of gray hair.

While hair growth may seem like a slow and steady thing, stress can disrupt this process, leading to thinner or slower-growing hair than usual.

As for gray hair, you've probably heard that stress can cause it to appear.

While it's not exactly clear why this happens, some studies suggest that it does Stress can affect melanin production, the pigment that gives color to hair, thus speeding up the whitening process.

Surely It is very important to pay attention to the signals that the body sends...

When the body has something to say, in fact, the hair speaks clearly.

Keep in mind that stress doesn't just affect you directly. It can subtly influence the functioning of vital organs such as the intestine and liver, to name a couple, with repercussions that also affect the hair. A real domino effect!

Let's say that a deterioration in the overall health of the hair can be a sign of chronic stress, which is not necessarily a striking negative condition, but very often it is a feeling of veiled discontent, a background discomfort, a barely perceived but constant discomfort over time.

Interpreting the signs of stress in your hair: as well as a hairdresser, you are also a trichologist technician!

Now, who better than you, who constantly observes your clients and knows their history, might be able to pick up on the signs that indicate scalp and hair health problems?

In addition to your role as a hairdresser, as a competent trichologist technician, thanks to the training of the Academy of Trichology masters, you have the opportunity to refine your skills in interpreting these signals and help those who rely on you to fully understand what is happening to their scalp and their hair.

The interesting thing is that once the cause of the discomfort has been identified, often linked to lifestyle or psychological issues, it is possible to adopt strategies to manage stress.

And let's not forget the importance of diet, which can play a significant role in stress management and hair health.

But I don't want to reveal too much here. I will talk about it in a future article on my video blog.
